While working on my crochet ornament tree I looked up several crochet bow patterns. They were all intricate with multiple pieces to sew together. My attention span doesn’t always allow for that – so I decided to make an easy crochet bow pattern just like you would for your shoelaces – out of just one long strand.
It doesn’t really require a pattern but for the sake of ease, the pattern is below.

- Any Size Hook
- Any weight yarn
Step 1: Make a long chain – in the example, I chained 61
Row 1: SC in the second chain from hook and in each stitch across. Ch1 and turn.
Row 2-?: SC in each chain across. In my example, there are 5 rows.
Tie off and weave in ends
Step 2: Fold the piece into a loose bow shape
Step 3: Cut a strand of yarn 30″ long (longer if you’ve done a thicker bow)
Step 4: Pinch the center of the bow together and wrap the yarn around the bow tightly, shaping the bow as you go.
Weave in the tail on the backside. I don’t think it gets any simpler than this easy crochet bow pattern. It’s versatile so you can make it as thick or as wide as you desire with the change of hook or yarn or initial chains.
Optional: You can use stiffener spray if you’d like a sturdier bow. I didn’t for mine, which is draped on my Christmas tree but would probably do so if I was giving it away (like as part of a wrapped present decoration) or if I was using it long term – such as on a permanent piece of decor in my home. I’d also probably consider stiffening this crochet bow if I was using it on a hair accessory – but for the Christmas tree, I like it rather drapey.
